Polypropylene is generally impact resistant and has good physical properties and a low specific gravity. Noted for its excellent chemical resistance in corrosive environments, as well as the ability to resist organic solvents, degreasing agents and electrolytic products, this polymer is easily welded and machined. Homopolymer and copolymer grades, as well as a popular heat-stabilized formulation, are used in various applications throughout the chemical and semiconductor industries.
The material has very good high temperature performance for a polyolefin and it is stiffer than LDPE or HDPE. Polypropylene is also thermoformable. It has good stain resistance and low moisture absorption as well. Low temperature impact is not a hallmark but can be improved by using a copolymer polypropylene.
